Our Vision

Youth WINS is a results-based collaboration aimed at creating sector-based education and employment pathways to increase the economic mobility of Staten Island out-of-school/out-of-work young adults aged 16 to 24.

    • Working collaboratively to bring more funding to coalition members.

    • Attending and Sponsoring Job Fairs

    • Delivering free community-facing workshops

    • Subgranting training and certification programs to community-based organizations.

    • Collecting qualitative and quantitative data from Young adults.

    • Building a connection to Schools

    • Engaging local employers

Our Staff

Sean Ghazala | Coalition Director

Sean Ghazala is a community organizer and activist. Sean is the Director of the Youth WINS Coalition, supporting workforce outcomes for young adults on Staten Island. Sean received a Master of Arts in Labor Studies from CUNY School of Urban and Labor Studies, and a Master of Public Administration from Baruch College, CUNY Marxe School of Public and International Affairs. He cofounded PleafortheFifth.com, a grassroots independent journalism outlet, and currently serves as Manager & Editor. Sean developed a love of nature and history as a park ranger with the National Park Service for eight years.

Gabriella Alves | Coalition Coordinator

Gabriella Grinwald-Alves (she/they) is an educator, media-maker, and youth advocate who has worked in community-based education and organizations for the past 5 years. During her time at Teachers College, Columbia University, Gabriella collaborated with Lenape elders Curtis Zunigha and Joe Baker from the Lenape Center on an early childhood education video curriculum centering land justice, Lenape language, and Indigenous Lenape connections to the island of Manhattan that has been used by teachers across the five boroughs. Gabriella’s film work has been screened at Middlebury New Filmmakers Festival and Ethnografilm Festival in Paris. As the Director of Transformative Justice Education at Start:Empowerment, a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, people of color)-led environmental justice education organization, Gabriella created and implemented programs for over 120 youth in the Bronx, wrote critical environmental and food justice curricula, led a teacher cohort comprised of 15 teachers from 6 states to implement environmental justice topics and lessons in their classrooms, facilitated professional developments and workshops at Teachers College Columbia University and New York University, and developed and led a plethora of youth action workshops. Gabriella strives to empower youth to recognize and build their individual and collective power.
